When this happens, there are several things you can try. First, check that the "Break messages apart larger than..." option is turned off for your email account.

1. Start Outlook Express
2. Click Tools
3. Click Accounts
4. Choose your account and click Properties
5. Click the Advanced tab
6. In the section labeled "Sendng", uncheck the box next to "Break apart messages larger than"
7. Click OK.
8. Click Close.

The second thing to do is to look at the size of a file called "Sent Items.dbx". If it's shown as 1.99GB or larger, then make a new folder and put some of the oldest messages in it instead. Finally, compact all folders to reduce the size of that Sent Items folder

1. Click Start
2. Click Search
3. Choose "All Files or Folders"
4. In the "All or part of the file name:" box, type "sent items.dbx"
5. Click "More advanced options" and make sure that there's a check mark in the box next to "Search hidden files and folders"
6. Click Search (This part takes a while, but it will eventually find at least one file under C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}\Microsoft\Outlook Express [username and all the "X"s will differ.])
7. If the size of the file is 1.99GB or 2.00GB, then close the Search Results window and follow the next steps.
8. Open Outlook
9. In the folder list, right-click Local Folders
10. Choose New Folder
11. Name the new folder and press Enter
12. Click the Sent Items folder
13. Drag and Drop a large portion of the messages from the Sent Items folder to the new folder you made. The move may take a while.
14. Click File
15. Point to Folder
16. Click Compact All Folders

This will take a while and will temporarily consume as much as 2GB of disk space because it will rename the old files, create new ones, put the good messages into the new files, then delete the old files.

You might also have a virus, but I'm not sure which one(s).

Hope it helps,
David
